A few years ago, maybe 2013, Tim Sullivan and Peter Sullivan along with others discussed the idea of creating an ongoing collaborative family memoir. We wanted to keep it simple, accessible and to be a place where anyone could add memories of family events, family sayings, general history, and the like. The memoir would be an informal story sharing place, with no particular regard to order.
Casey Sullivan suggested the use of various platforms that we might use for the memoir project, and we decided to use Word Press.
Welcome to the collaborative memoir! And thanks to Casey for his ongoing assistance to make this a user friendly experience. As questions about navigation on the site or other bumps in the road arise, let us know. Most recently published posts are listed first. Posts that provide background history, eg “Jerry’s Original History Document” and “Janie’s Discovery” can be found by scrolling down the list of posts.
You are encouraged to read and make comments, and add original stories no matter how trite or brief they may seem to you. Your memory of some event may trigger others to share additional information. You never know.
As we begin, the collaborative memoir project includes all descendants and relatives of the Sullivan and Walters families. This is a large group and includes many other family names that will hopefully be mentioned eg Maddens, McGraths, Mescalls, Donnellys, McWilliams etc.
So why are we doing this? The stories that are not passed along, fade into the unknown and unknowable. It is hoped that this memoir might be one more place where memories and stories can be captured and shared before they go over that edge. Photos are also welcome here.
Another great place for information regarding the Walters and Maddens among others is the ancestry.com site that Cathy McGrath started and maintains “Madden Walters Family of Ontario Co., NY USA”. Similarly Peter Sullivan maintains the ancestry site “Sullivan Family Tree, Bird Rd., Dunnville, Ontario, Canada”.
Again, welcome.
